Returning Missionaries Pre-admitted to BYU-Pathway Worldwide
Individuals who are completing or who have recently completed a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are now pre-approved to participate in PathwayConnect, a one-year, low-cost, online program offered through BYU-Pathway Worldwide, which then leads to job-ready certificates and degrees.
Young missionaries returning home often face significant changes and may be unsure about the next steps they should take. They want to progress, but many are held back from higher education due to access, cost, and fear. However, knowing that they have an affordable option for education when they return home can help eliminate those fears.
Clark Gilbert, BYU-Pathway Worldwide president, said, “Many returned missionaries don’t get a university degree. Providing more returned missionaries with the opportunity to earn a degree and gain marketable skills has the potential to bless the whole Church.”
Young elders and sisters will receive notification about 90 days into their missions, regarding the opportunity and encouraging non-English-speaking missionaries to learn English during their missions to prepare for the program. An additional email inviting them to apply for admission to BYU-Pathway Worldwide will be sent 90 days before they complete their mission service. Early release and service missionaries are also eligible to apply for admission. This opportunity will help missionaries have a clear path to follow as they return home, helping them progress to higher education and prepare to provide for a future family.
BYU-Pathway Worldwide hopes this educational opportunity will aid returning missionaries in future Church service and also bless the lives of countless returned missionaries, their families, and their communities. Earning a degree opens doors that would otherwise stay closed, and BYU-Pathway Worldwide is making it easier for returning missionaries to come home and receive the education they desire.
Classes for next semester begin September 16, 2019. While pre-admitted, returning or returned missionaries still need to apply at byupathway.lds.org/admissions.
